Two Leitchfield women, including one arrested in late June on drug charges in Grayson County, the other arrested in April on drug charges, have been jailed in Hardin County on drug charges.
Cassandra J. Whitaker, 44, and Amber L. Hill, 31, were arrested Thursday afternoon by the Elizabethtown Police Department after officers responded to a shoplifting complaint.
According to the arrest citation, officers responded to Academy Sports, at 1507 Ring Road, after store employees said Hill was “inside the store concealing items and who was now in the restroom with store items that she concealed.” Police were also told a Chevrolet Malibu, containing Whitaker, was “waiting for (Hill) in the parking lot.”
Upon police arriving, officers made contact with Hill and Whitaker at Whitaker’s vehicle in the parking lot, the citation states. Hill was placed into custody.
Officers then searched the Malibu and located a new syringe, a used syringe, a spoon with residue, and methamphetamine, according to the citation. Officers also located a “package of U-Pass clean urine.”
Whitaker, who is on probation, was arrested and charged with possession of a controlled substance (methamphetamine), second-degree criminal simulation, and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Hill was arrested and charged with second-degree criminal simulation, possession of a controlled substance (drug unspecified), prescription controlled substance not in its proper container, and shoplifting.
(The criminal simulation charge is related to officers locating the U-Pass with clean urine.)
Both women were lodged in the Hardin County Detention Center.
K105 earlier this week reported that Whitaker was recently arrested by the Leitchfield Police Department on heroin and methamphetamine possession charges after being found passed out in the Huddle House parking lot.
Whitaker has a long history of drug and theft arrests in Hardin, Jefferson, Bullitt, and Grayson counties, with her initial heroin arrest coming in 2016 in Bullitt County. Additionally, between April and August of last year, Whitaker was arrested four times on a variety of charges, including DUI (excludes alcohol) in Grayson County and drug and theft charges in Hardin County.
The morning of April 14, Leitchfield Police Department Sgt. Keith Harrell and Officer DJ Newton were dispatched to a non-injury accident in the 400 block of West Main Street and found a Toyota passenger car in a ditch. The driver, Hill, was behaving frenetically, as she appeared to be unable to stand still, police said. She was given a field sobriety test and arrested.
When Hill arrived at the detention center, she was thoroughly searched by staff who located a baggie of methamphetamine hidden on Hill’s person.
In that case, she was charged with possession of a controlled substance (methamphetamine), promoting contraband, DUI, possession of drug paraphernalia, and failure to maintain insurance.
