A national campaign has been launched aimed at bringing awareness to motorists to move over when first responders are working on the side of roadways.
Kentucky State Police, along with other border states, initiated the #MoveOver enforcement effort on Sunday.
The campaign focuses on drivers who fail to move over when emergency personnel (police, fire, EMS) are working on the side of the road.
All 50 states have enacted “Move Over” laws, but very few Americans know they exist, Kentucky State Police said.
Kentucky passed a law in 2003 requiring motorists to move to the adjacent lane when approaching an emergency or public safety vehicle. If it’s impossible or unsafe to change lanes, motorists must slow down and use caution.
