Less than 48 hours after a train derailed in Colesburg, in Hardin County, a train left the tracks in downtown Harrodsburg.

The Harrodsburg Police Department said the Norfolk Southern train derailed at approximately 5:00 Tuesday afternoon. The train was carrying coal and no injuries were reported.

The derailment limited motorists’ ability to enter downtown Harrodsburg area for several hours.

On Tuesday night, a CSX train derailed in Colesburg, near to I-65. Several residents were evacuated until it was determined the train was not hauling hazardous materials. The interstate adjacent to the derailment was closed for about an hour.

Seven of the train’s cars derailed into a creek. No injuries were reported.

The Colesburg derailment marked the third time a train has left the track in that area since 2017.
