39 new COVID cases in Grayson Co., 2 new deaths. Rate of occurrence continues to fall.

On Monday, the Grayson County Health Department updated the county’s COVID-19 numbers.

The health department said 39 new cases of the virus have been diagnosed since October 25 (5.6 per day). There have been 4,877 cases diagnosed in Grayson County since the beginning of the pandemic in March 2020.

Two new deaths were also announced, raising the county’s death toll to 90, and giving the county 10 COVID-related deaths since October 13. Nine suspected COVID deaths are awaiting confirmation from state health officials.

There are 69 active cases in the county, down 30 from October 25. Two people are hospitalized, down five from October 25.

The county’s incident rate checked in at 28.7, down significantly from October 25’s 48.1, but still slightly above Kentucky’s 22.4 COVID rate of occurrence. The county, according to the Kentucky Department for Public Health, still has a “critical spread” of the virus, although the metric has steadily dropped over the last week.

Statewide numbers

Gov. Andy Beshear reported 568 new COVID cases on Monday and 26 deaths.

Of the new cases, 132 (23.2 percent) are children 18-years-old and younger. The new cases increase the total number of cases in Kentucky to 745,353.

The 26 new deaths raise the state’s death toll to 9,814 (1.3 percent fatality rate), and gives the state 97 deaths since Friday.

The positivity rate is 5.03 percent, up slightly from Sunday’s 4.98 percent.

Officials said 772 people are hospitalized, down 17 from Friday, with 253 patients in ICUs, down 28 from Friday. There are 138 people on ventilators, down five from Friday.
