138 new COVID cases in Grayson County, one new death

The Grayson County Health Department on Monday updated the county’s COVID-19 numbers.

The health department said 138 new cases of the virus were diagnosed since the last update on December 14. There have been 5,343 cases diagnosed in Grayson County since the beginning of the pandemic in March 2020.

One new death was reported, raising the county’s death toll to 101. Seven suspected COVID deaths are awaiting confirmation from state health officials.

There are 76 active cases in the county, down 13 from December 14.

Ten people are currently hospitalized, up three hospitalizations since December 14. Health department officials said nine of the people hospitalized are unvaccinated.

The county’s incident rate, which was 42.2 on December 6 before dropping to 29.2 on December 14, checked in at 35.1 on Monday, as Grayson County remains in the “red,” indicating a “critical spread” of the virus, according to the Kentucky Department for Public Health.

All bordering counties are also in the “red,” with Breckinridge County having the highest rate of occurrence at 56.5, followed by Ohio (48.8), Hart (47.3), Edmonson (36.4), Hardin (34.9), and Butler (28.8) counties.

An incident rate above 25.0 indicates a “critical spread” of the virus.
