The man accused of shooting a Kentucky State Trooper multiple times has been arrested and the trooper released from the hospital.

Kentucky State Police said LeeQuan T. Taylor, 22, of Lexington, was arrested by troopers and charged with attempted murder of a police office, first-degree assault and possession of a handgun by a convicted felon. He is being held in the Bourbon County Regional Detention Center on a $1 million cash bond.

Taylor is accused of shooting a trooper six times Friday afternoon at approximately 4:20 on Delta Court, a mobile home park in Cynthiana, about 28 miles north of Lexington.

Police said the preliminary investigation shows that three of the shots struck the trooper’s ballistic vest; one shot struck his taser; one struck his body-worn radio; and the final round struck his body, causing serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

The trooper, according to media reports, returned fire, emptying the firearm’s magazine. Witnesses told news outlets that up to 20 shots were fired during the exchange.

The shooting occurred during a traffic stop.

The injured trooper has been released from the hospital and is recovering at his home, according to police.

The Kentucky State Police Critical Incident Response Team is investigating.
