Mildred Violet Wells Madison, 106, of Brownsville passed away at 2:15 PM Feb. 20, 2022 at Edmonson Center in Brownsville.The Edmonson County native was born March 7, 1915 in Portland, IN.
She was a housewife, an owner/operator of Wells Lumber Company, a charter member of the Brownsville Homemakers and the Edmonson County Homemakers, a charter member of the Edmonson County Historical Society and a member of Brownsville Missionary Baptist Church.
She was a daughter of the late James Carl Wells and Flora James Wells and the wife of the late Earl “Pete” Wells and the late Edward Murl Madison. She was preceded in death by a sister, Genevieve “Jimmie” Alexander.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM Monday, March 7 at Gravil Funeral Home with burial to follow in Brownsville Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 12:00 PM Monday.
Surviving are a son, James Earl Wells of Hallandale Beach, FL; two step daughters, Doris Emerson of Rocky Hill and Judy Besser of Elizabethtown; three grandchildren, Jamie Alford, Kimberly Wells and Michael Emerson; a niece, Victoria “Vickie” Alexander; a nephew, Larry Skaggs; and a special friend, Janet Dennison.
