The National Weather Service (NWS) has completed its storm damage survey and announced that eight tornadoes struck Kentucky on Wednesday night.

None of the eight touched down in Grayson County, according to the NWS, although extensive wind damage was reported in the county, primarily in the Anneta and Caneyville areas.

  • Damage assessment teams reported an EF-1 with top winds reaching 97 miles per hour touched down in the Fern Creek area of Louisville.
  • Three twisters struck Shelby County: One, an EF-1 with winds reaching 90 mph, touched down along Rockbridge Road, about three miles east southeast of I-64 at exit 35; a second EF-1, also with winds of 90 mph, came down in the Waddy/Peytona area; and a third, an EF-0 twister with winds of 80 mph, touched down about six miles south of Shelbyville.
  • Two tornadoes touched down in Spencer County: The first, an EF-0 with 80 mph winds, came down in northeast Spencer County, while another EF-0, also with 80 mph winds, touched down just west of Taylorsville.
  • Two twisters impacted LaRue County: One, an EF-1 with winds of 100 mph, touched down 1.3 miles southeast of Upton, as a second tornado, an EF-0 packing 80 mph winds, struck two miles south southeast of Buffalo, in south central LaRue County.

None of the tornadoes caused injuries or deaths, the NWS said, but all inflicted damage, ranging from mangled homes, barns, trees, utility poles, and outbuildings to minor damage such as a dog house being removed from a property and tree top destruction.
