A Hickman County man has been charged with making a threat of violence toward school staff.

Kentucky State Police arrested 20-year-old Buster A. Thomas, of Clinton, Tuesday night for making a social media threat toward the staff at Hickman County High School, where he formerly attended.

The investigation began when the KSP Electronic Crimes Branch received information from Facebook advising that a post, “relating to a possible criminal threat, had been flagged,” police said.

Authorities traced the origin of the threat to an electronic device in Hickman County. The information obtained by the Electronic Crimes Branch was relayed to Kentucky State Police Post 1 where the investigation continued.

As a result of that investigation, troopers located the device that was used to create the threatening social media post.

Thomas was charged with second-degree terroristic threatening, a class D felony punishable by one to five years in prison.

He was lodged in the Ballard County Jail.

On Wednesday, 20-year-old Hailee A. Reed, of Stanford, was charged with first-degree terroristic threatening after making an online threat toward a parking structure on the Western Kentucky University campus. She is a student at the university.

Reed told police she meant the threat as a joke. She faces five to 10 years in prison if convicted of the charge.
