Three people have died and two people seriously injured in an accident in Barren County.

Kentucky State Police responded to the wreck Tuesday night at approximately 8:00 in the 8100 block of Happy Valley Road (Hwy 90), about one mile south of Cave City.

State police said the initial investigation showed that 28-year-old Singh Gill, of Fresno, California, was driving a 2017 Freightliner semi truck east on Happy Valley Road when he failed to see a vehicle slowing to make a left turn in front of him.

In an attempt to avoid hitting the vehicle, police said Gill swerved into the westbound lane where the semi struck a 2005 GMC Yukon head-on. The driver of the GMC, 76-year-old David Hayes, of Cave City, and two passengers, 54-year-old Katie Yoder and her husband, 55-year-old Daniel Yoder, both of Horse Cave, were pronounced deceased at the scene by the Barren County Coroner’s Office.

Two other passengers in the GMC, 20-year-old Roseanne Yoder and 14-year-old Joseph Yoder, both of Horse Cave and Katie and Daniel’s children, were airlifted to Vanderbilt University Medical Center where they are listed in stable condition, police said.

The investigation is being led by Trooper Bo Hubbard.
