The Grayson County Sheriff’s Office has led another search for a Caneyville woman missing for nearly a decade.

On Friday, Kentucky State Police, two K-9s, Malakai and Gypsy (and their handlers), and Grayson County deputies and Sheriff Norman Chaffins, conducted a search in an area off Old Hartford Road just outside Caneyville for missing mother of four Melvia Roarx, who was 28 when she disappeared on June 4, 2013.

The sheriff’s office previously led a search party looking for Roarx on June 16 and June 17, 2022, in the same general area.

“This search stemmed from a tip from a Grayson County citizen received in June of 2022,” Sheriff Norman Chaffins said. “The search in June, however, had to be cut short due to the heat and humidity as we feared for the health and safety of the K-9, Malakai. It was decided that a search would be conducted in the fall/winter 2023 when the foliage was down, and the weather conditions would be more conducive to the health of the K-9s.”

Also assisting in the search on Friday was UAS pilot and Grayson Co. Sheriff’s Office Special Deputy Blake Schroerlucke, who also serves as a Training Office for the Leitchfield Fire Department. Schroerlucke flew a drone, giving the search crew a birds-eye view of the area.

The search, Chaffins said, did not yield new information regarding the whereabouts of Roarx, but the sheriff added, “We will not stop looking for her until she is found.”

“Melvia still has a father, sisters, children, aunts, uncles and friends that love and miss her and want her found. Every time we search, her family calls me wanting to know if we found anything. I long for the day when we can tell them that we did. No family should have to go through life not knowing what happened to their loved one and we will not stop looking for her until she is found,” Chaffins stated.

Roarx was wearing a neon green spaghetti-strap top, blue jeans, and flip flops the last time she was seen.

Anyone with information regarding this missing person case, or the whereabouts of Melvia Roarx, is encouraged to contact the Grayson County Sheriff’s Office at 270-259-3024. You may remain anonymous.
