An eastern Kentucky attorney has been charged with drug trafficking and other crimes.

Laurel County Sheriff John Root said that after a short investigation, members of the Laurel County Drug Interdiction Task Force served an arrest warrant on Wednesday night on London attorney Kareem S. Hamdiyah, 44, at his residence on Collet Lane.

When officers announced themselves, Hamdiyah attempted to flee on foot and briefly struggled with officers before being taken into custody, police said.

Task force officers determined that as Hamdiyah fled he concealed evidence in a trash can outside his residence.

“The accused was found to be in possession of a quantity of methamphetamine and pills,” according to Root.

Hamdiyah was charged with trafficking in a controlled substance (opiates), possession of a controlled substance (methamphetamine), resisting arrest, fleeing or evading police (on foot), and tampering with physical evidence. He was lodged in Laurel County Corrections. He is no longer listed as an inmate.
