First responders in Leitchfield were dispatched to an opioid overdose early Thursday.

Thursday morning at 2:15, the Leitchfield Police and Fire Departments and EMS responded to an overdose on Hardin Street.

The 45-year-old man apparently overdosed on heroin or fentanyl, or possibly a combination of the two deadly opioids, and was given a four milligram dose of Narcan by a relative prior to first responders arriving. The Narcan revived the man.

He was transported by EMS to Owensboro Health Twin Lakes Medical Center.

Last week, the same man overdosed and went into respiratory arrest, as his heart stopped but he still had a pulse, according to a first responder.

As K105 reported last week, a woman suffered a near fatal overdose at a Bruce Avenue residence in Leitchfield that has become known for overdoses.

“There’s an overdose there practically every week,” Leitchfield Fire Chief Tim Duvall told K105.

The 37-year-old female had to be given three doses of Narcan to bring her back to life after she ingested heroin and quit breathing. The week prior, a male overdosed at the same Bruce Avenue home.
