A Leitchfield police officer has been arrested for crimes allegedly committed in Nelson County.

According to Kentucky State Police, an internal investigation was initially conducted by the Leitchfield Police Department into allegations Officer Jeremy Taylor Wright, 27, was having a sexual relationship with a 17-year-old female in Nelson County.

Once certain information was gathered, LPD on Wednesday turned the investigation over to Kentucky State Police.

The investigations found that Wright, while an LPD officer, had a sexual relationship with a 17-year-old female on July 22 in Bardstown.

Wright resigned his position with LPD.

A warrant for Wright’s arrest was issued and charges the Caneyville man with first-degree sexual abuse and third-degree rape. He was arrested and lodged in the Nelson County Detention Center. Wright has since been released.

He joined the Leitchfield Police Department in April 2022 and graduated from the law enforcement academy in December 2022.

The investigation is ongoing and by led KSP Det. Robert Hartley.

The Leitchfield Police Department issued the following statement on Wright’s arrest:

On July 27, 2023, the Leitchfield Police Department contacted Kentucky State Police Post 4 in reference to information gathered during an internal investigation.

At this time Leitchfield Police Department cannot release any further information as this investigation is ongoing.

Officer Jeremy Taylor Wright is no longer employed by this agency. I will refer all outlets to Kentucky State Police Post 4 for further information.
