Curtis Gene Whitehead, age 76, of Leitchfield, KY, passed away Sunday, (August 13, 2023) in Louisville, KY. He was born on October 24, 1946 in Short Creek, KY, the son of the late Calip Marion and Magdalene Payton Whitehead.
He retired from Vermont American after being employed for 35 years. He worked there as a supervisor for 28 years. Curtis enjoyed collecting knives, watching westerns on television, playing computer and card games, and fishing. He loved dogs and all animals. His life was enriched by spending time with his family and grandchildren. He was a loving, kind man who
loved everybody and everybody loved him, especially those he worked with at Vermont American.
Curtis was married to his first wife, Christine Whitehead for 33 years until her death, and his second wife, Wilma Whitehead for 19 years. He was saved at the age of 16 years old at Free Zion Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife, Wilma Weedman Whitehead of Leitchfield; two daughters, Cathy (Kevin) Palmer and Sheila (Tim) Swift all of Yeaman; five grandchildren, Phillip Frank, Eric Palmer, Felicia Swift, Cody (Breanna) Reynolds, Michela Reynolds, and bonus granddaughter, Lauren Young; ten great-grandchildren, Drew, Chazea, Lucas, Jennifer, Lucy, Kade, Kylie, Keagan, Kali and Laina; one great-great-grandchild, Lily; two sisters-in-law, Katie Cook and Erma Dodson; and several nieces and nephews.
Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Christine Whitehead; five brothers-in-law and one sister-in-law.
Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. Friday, (August 18, 2023) at the Dermitt Funeral Home in Leitchfield. Bro. Cecil Williams will be officiating. Burial will be in the Yeaman Cemetery.
Visitation will be at the Dermitt Funeral Home from 11:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday and from 9:00 a.m. Friday until time of services.
