The man who shot and killed a northern Kentucky teenager had been drinking heavily prior to the accident.

Timothy Stone, 40, of Owenton, told Kentucky State Police he drank 10 beers and a bourbon shot before he accidentally shot 16-year-old Bryce Stewart in the chest, according to a report by WAVE.com.

The incident occurred Sunday morning at approximately 1:20 at a residence in the 3700 block of Squiresville Road in Owenton while Stone was showing Stewart his rifle.

Stone was charged with second-degree manslaughter and lodged in the Carroll County Detention Center.

A person is guilty of manslaughter in the second degree when he wantonly or recklessly causes the death of another person. The charge is a class C felony, punishable by five to 10 years in prison.

Stewart was a junior football player at Carroll County High School, according to his obituary. He was also vice-president of the school’s Future Farmers of America chapter.

The investigation is ongoing.

Last week, a two-year-old boy died in Laurel County after accidentally shooting himself. Two weeks prior to that accidental shooting, a 12-year-old Laurel County boy was killed after being shot in the stomach.
