A Leitchfield woman has been killed in a two-vehicle accident.

The Leitchfield Police Department, Grayson County Sheriff’s Office, Leitchfield Fire Department and EMS responded to the crash Saturday afternoon at approximately 12:50 at the intersection of William Thomason Byway and Salt River Road.

Within minutes of arriving at the scene, Leitchfield PD Sgt. Keith Harrell requested a Kentucky State Police accident reconstructionist because of the grave injuries suffered by one of the five people in the wreck.

KSP reconstructionist Jesse Harp soon arrived and investigated the crash.

The preliminary investigation, Kentucky State Police said, revealed 70-year-old Elizabeth Roof, of Leitchfield, was driving a 2010 Nissan Sentra east on Salt River Road when she failed to stop at the intersection of the byway. After entering the intersection, the Sentra struck a northbound 2017 Ford Explorer, being driven by 58-year-old Michael Richardson, of Tipp City, Ohio.

Leitchfield fire personnel extracted Roof and Richardson from their respective vehicles.

Roof was transported to Owensboro Health Twin Lakes Medical Center by EMS where she was pronounced deceased by Deputy Grayson County Coroner Larry Holeman.

Richardson was airlifted to Norton Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Three other victims were transported by EMS to Owensboro Health Twin Lakes Medical Center with varying, but non-life threatening injuries.
