If one has driven through Bee Spring recently, or for anyone who lives in the area, a noticeable odor, dubbed the “Bee Spring Stench,” has invaded olfactory systems and caused an uproar in the community.
The rotten egg odor was discussed at length at Monday’s Edmonson County Fiscal Court meeting, according to The Edmonson Voice reporter/owner Darren Doyle.
According to Doyle, a farmer was using culled eggs and egg shells from Perdue Farms to fertilize his fields, causing an unbearable stench. The farmer, though, has voluntarily agreed to stop using eggs as a fertilizer.
The farmer, Jonathan Blanton, told Doyle after Monday’s meeting that he did not intend to “do harm to the community in any way, and that he is doing everything he can to solve the issue.”
Perhaps related, perhaps not, were gunshots that rang out in the area on Sunday. No homes or structures were struck by the gunfire. Edmonson County Sheriff James Vincent said his office is reviewing surveillance video in an attempt to identify the perpetrator[s].
