The opening of one of two electric vehicle (EV) battery plants in Glendale has been delayed.

Ford announced on Thursday that one of the plants at BlueOval SK Battery Park will not open in 2026 as originally planned. The delay is due to doubts surrounding the current market demand for EVs, according to multiple news outlets.

Each Glendale plant is set to employ 2,500 workers.

One plant is expected to begin production in 2025. It’s unclear when the second plant will begin production.

Ford officials said the company remains committed to producing electric vehicles.
