James “Sonny” Carroll Line, age 82, passed away at his home in Clarkson, Kentucky on January 20th, 2024. James was born on August 25, 1941, in Clarkson to James Clifford and Lois (Williams) Line.
Following his high school graduation, James joined the United States Air Force where he worked as a mechanic on B-52s and achieved the rank of Sergeant. Upon completion of his military service, James returned to Grayson County to begin a lifelong career as a successful farmer growing tobacco, raising beef cattle and operating a dairy.
Some of his favorite pastimes were raccoon hunting, fishing, mushroom hunting, and playing cards.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years Ardys (Rentschler) Line, one daughter Laura (René) Colocho of Cecilia; two sons Dean (Jill) Line of Elizabethtown and Douglas Line of Houston, Texas; and three grandchildren, Aaron Bell, Ryan Bell, and Hailey Line. He is also survived by one sister Janice Williams, one brother Kenny (Martha) Line, several nephews and a niece.
James was preceded in death by his parents, James Clifford and Lois Gertrude (Williams) Line.
Dermitt’s Funeral Home will be handling James’ request of cremation. A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations made in James’ name to Shriners Hospital for Children or St. Jude Children’s Hospital.
The family would like to convey their gratitude to all the family and friends that offered their support whether it was through visits, thoughts, prayers, or food. The family would also like to thank Hosparus for their support and excellent care of James.
