Two men, one from Anneta, the other from Bee Spring, have been nabbed red-handed stealing timber off a property on Anneta Road.

Tuesday morning at approximately 3:25, Grayson County Deputy Andy Cast and Leitchfield Police Department Officer Wally Ritter were dispatched to the 9000 block of Anneta Road after a property owner told Central Dispatch that “two men (were) taking trees off (the victim’s) property without … permission,” according to the arrest citation.

Upon police arriving at the scene, a vehicle matching the description given to authorities was parked in the victim’s driveway and was “pulling a trailer with a large tree/log on it,” the citation states.

Police made contact with the suspects, 54-year-old Charles D. Ford, of Anneta, and 48-year-old Douglas D. Saltsman, of Bee Spring. During a search of the vehicle, police located chainsaws, binoculars and night vision spotting scopes.

Both suspects were arrested and charged with theft by unlawful taking (over $1,000, less than $10,000), possession of burglary tools and first-degree criminal trespassing.

Ford and Saltsman were lodged in the Grayson County Detention Center.

Ford, according to the Kentucky Department of Corrections (KDC) is on parole until December 31, 2028, following his conviction in Edmonson County in September 2022 for trafficking in a controlled substance (methamphetamine). He was also convicted in Grayson County for theft by unlawful taking (over $1,000, less than $10,000) and first-degree persistent felony offender.

Saltsman has multiple felony convictions, as well. In 2011, he was convicted in Edmonson County for criminal facilitation to manufacturing methamphetamine, unlawful possession of a methamphetamine precursor and possession of a controlled substance (methamphetamine), according to the KDC. He was additionally convicted in Edmonson County in 2016 for manufacturing methamphetamine and tampering with physical evidence.

He is on parole until August 2027.
