A crossover crash involving two teenage drivers has killed a passenger in Hopkins County.

Kentucky State Police said troopers responded to the accident Saturday morning at approximately 5:25 on the Pennyrile Parkway near Nortonville.

The preliminary investigation showed that 19-year-old Desmond Washington, of Fort Campbell, was traveling north on the parkway in a Toyota Corolla when the vehicle crossed the median and struck head-on a southbound Toyota Tacoma, being driven by 16-year-old Elmer F. Morente, of Nashville, Tennessee.

A passenger in the Tacoma, 36-year-old Matias C. Juarez, of Nashville, was pronounced deceased at the scene by the Hopkins County Coroner’s Office, police said.

Washington, Morente and a second passenger in the Tacoma were injured and airlifted to Nashville hospitals.

The investigation is ongoing and being led by accident reconstructionist, Trooper Patrick Penrod.
