A convicted sex offender from Grayson County released from prison in fall 2023 has been arrested for fleeing a car accident.

William L. Sandlin, 47, of Leitchfield, was arrested last week by Grayson County Chief Deputy Sonny Poteet and charged with leaving the scene of an accident, driving on a suspended driver’s license and failure to maintain insurance.

Sandlin’s arrest came after a car accident on Claggett Road on April 1 where the suspect fled the scene.

Sandlin was convicted in Grayson County for second-degree rape of a 23-year-old victim, according to the Kentucky State Police Sex Offender Registry. He is required to register with the sex offender registry for 20 years.

According to Kentucky Revised Statute 510.050, a person is guilty of rape in the second-degree when:

(a) Being eighteen (18) years old or more, he or she engages in sexual intercourse with another person less than fourteen (14) years old; or

(b) He or she engages in sexual intercourse with another person who is mentally incapacitated or who is incapable of consent because he or she is an individual with an intellectual disability.

Sandlin was lodged in the Grayson County Detention Center.
