An armed motorcyclist has been arrested after fleeing police.
The incident began Monday night around midnight when a Kentucky State Police trooper observed a motorcycle traveling on Bowling Green Road (Hwy 231) at a high rate of speed. The trooper was unable to catch the motorcycle after losing sight of the fleeing vehicle, according to the arrest citation.
Later Tuesday morning, a Butler County deputy attempted to stop the same Harley-Davidson motorcycle on Bowling Green Road for an equipment violation but the driver, 36-year-old Jeremiah L. Keen, of Owensboro, again fled police.
Keen, while being pursued, began traveling through yards before entering a field in the 9600 block of Bowling Green Road. The suspect then fled toward a tree line where Keen exited the motorcycle and fled on foot into the woods.
The Butler County deputy gave chase on foot when he saw Keen “holding a firearm,” the citation states.
The deputy ordered Keen to drop the weapon. Keen complied and continued running from the deputy. The deputy, though, was able to catch and tackle Keen to the ground.
Keen then began resisting and fighting the deputy, as the deputy suffered a shoulder injury while taking the suspect into custody.
The deputy, according to the citation, “received medial care for his sustained injury.”
Police recovered the firearm Keen, a convicted felon, tossed onto the ground and discovered the gun had been stolen and had a “damaged/filed serial number.”
Keen was arrested and charged with receiving stolen property (firearm), possession of a defaced firearm, possession of a handgun by a convicted felon, resisting arrest, third-degree assault of a police officer, four counts of fleeing or evading police (motor vehicle, on foot), first-degree wanton endangerment of a police officer, second-degree criminal mischief, three counts of third-degree criminal trespassing, destruction of VIN number, and tampering with physical evidence in addition to numerous non-moving violations.
He was lodged in the Butler County Jail.
