The Leitchfield City Council on Monday night heard a request to close a section of West Market Street so a local business can hold auctions.

Patrick Willis and Jamie Johnson of FHRA Realtors Inc, at 120 West Market Street, requested that the section of West Market Street at their business be closed on Thursday nights between 5:30 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. during the summer (May – September).

Willis, while speaking to the council, said he would expect around 100 people (on a good night) for the auctions. Occasionally, perhaps once per month, the business will have music at the auction.

A food truck would also be set up near the auction site.

When asked what type of auctions FHRA would host, Willis said estate auctions and consignment auctions would take place.

The council unanimously approved the request.

Vote on creation of new code enforcement officer position

The council also heard the second and final reading of an amended ordinance that creates a second code enforcement officer position for the city of Leitchfield.

Currently, Tyler Harrell serves as the city’s lone code enforcement officer (among other responsibilities). Dalton McStoots, though, has “been working under Tyler for some time,” Mayor Harold Miller said prior to the first reading of the ordinance in April.

The council approved the move, as McStoots will presumably be named the city’s second code enforcement officer.

LPD to sell cruiser as surplus property

Leitchfield Police Chief David Riley requested permission from the council to declare a police cruiser, a 2013 Dodge Charger, as surplus property.

The vehicle has 146,000 miles and is experiencing “some transmission issues,” according to Riley.

The council approved LPD selling the vehicle on govdeals.com.
