A vehicle crashed into a large propane tank at Spring View Nursing & Rehab.
The accident occurred Thursday afternoon at approximately 4:45 at 718 Goodwin Lane and resulted in an all-hands-on-deck response from the Leitchfield Police and Fire Departments, Grayson Co. Emergency Management, as well as EMS.
The incident occurred when a Ford passenger car being driven by a male was traveling to Spring View. The vehicle, according to the driver, apparently lost its brakes – there were no brake marks at the scene — as the Ford, instead of turning right into Spring View’s parking lot, traveled into a side yard and struck a large propane tank, propelling the tank about 40 feet.
The Ford then swerved left into a parking lot before coming to a stop against a truck.
A strong odor of propane was noticeable as far away as Moon Avenue, nearly a half mile from the accident site.
Leitchfield police immediately shut down Wallace Avenue — which runs adjacent to the accident site — from the William Thomason Byway to East Carroll Gibson Boulevard while firefighters evaluated the situation.
After being given the all clear by firefighters, police reopened the roadway within 15 to 20 minutes of closing the street.
Officials contacted United Propane Gas, as employees of the company took command of the scene, stabilized the tank and repaired a broken valve, according to the Leitchfield FD.
There were no injuries reported.
