A young man has perished following a horrific accident on Owensboro Road (Hwy 54) on Tuesday afternoon.

Eli Meredith, 16, died Wednesday afternoon at University of Louisville Hospital, the Grayson County Sheriff’s Office confirmed with K105.

Eli was involved in a crash in the 4800 block of Owensboro Road at approximately 3:10 Tuesday afternoon when an eastbound Chevrolet Silverado left the rain-soaked roadway and entered a ditch line before crashing head-on into a concrete culvert.

The vehicle was propelled into the air where it spun (like a helicopter rotor), ejecting both Eli and another young male, who was transported by EMS to Owensboro Health Twin Lakes Medical Center. His current condition is not known.

Falls of Rough Fire Department Capt. Austin Massina drove up on the accident only moments after the wreck. He evaluated the scene and provided critical information for the Leitchfield Fire Department, EMS crews and Grayson County Chief Deputy Sonny Poteet, who were en route to the crash.
