A woman has shot and killed her husband.

The incident took place on Tuesday evening on Red Banks Road in Cumberland County.

Kentucky State Police said its investigation found that the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a crash on Red Banks Road. Upon the arriving at the scene, deputies along with EMS discovered that the male occupant of the vehicle, 60-year-old James Edens, of Burkesville, had suffered a gunshot wound.

Edens was transported to Cumberland County Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.

Through investigation, detectives learned that Edens and his wife, 52-year-old Heather Edens, of Burkesville, were involved in a verbal altercation at a residence on Red Banks Road just prior to the accident.

During the altercation, it was determined that Heather Edens shot her husband.

She was arrested and charged with murder and lodged in the Adair County Detention Center.

The investigation continues and is being led by KSP Det. Zach Scott.
