A driver has been charged with murder in the death of a Nelson County man in a DUI crash.

Kentucky State Police said troopers responded to the wreck on Friday afternoon at approximately 4:15 in the 3900 block of Shepherdsville Road (Hwy 245) near Bardstown.

KSP Post 4 Public Affairs Officer Bryan Washer said the investigation indicated a 2015 Cadillac SRX, being driven by 51-year-old Teudis D. Hernandez, of Louisville, was traveling south when the vehicle crossed into the northbound lanes and collided head-on with a 1966 Ford Mustang, being driven by 79-year-old Edward Hovan, of Coxs Creek.

Hovan was pronounced deceased at the scene by the Nelson County Coroner’s Office. Hovan’s wife, 71-year-old Christine Hovan, sustained severe injuries and was transported to University of Louisville Hospital where she is listed in critical condition.

Hernandez was transported to Flaget Memorial Hospital with minor injuries.

As a result of the investigation, Washer said Hernandez was charged with murder, first-degree assault, DUI, driving on a suspended/revoked license, and failure to produce an insurance card.

He was lodged in the Nelson County Detention Center on a $1 million cash bond.

The crash remains under investigation by KSP Det. Kevin Dreisbach.
