At approximately 4:15 Saturday afternoon, the Leitchfield Fire Department responded to Mr. Gatti’s Pizza on South Main Street after workers reported a small fire in the building’s electrical box.
Restaurant workers said they were busy making pizzas and serving the many customers in the building when they began to smell a strange odor, which led them to the structure’s large electrical box.
Firefighters responded and found the electrical box, located in a small room in the back of the building, near the cashier, experienced a brief flame-up likely due to an electrical surge. While firefighters and a Warren RECC worker were investigating the source of the surge, they discovered a blower motor on the roof of the building had “blown.”
The restaurant, which of course had to close, will re-open when the electrical issue is fixed and inspected by a state inspector, something Leitchfield Fire Chief Tim Duvall said will be done on Sunday.
There were no injuries reported and LFD cleared the scene at 6:30.
