Tragedy has struck Bath County as four Amish children have been killed after being swept away in flood waters during a buggy accident

Five children and one adult from the same family went missing at about 5:00 Wednesday afternoon, state police said, when the horse pulling their buggy slipped while crossing a flood-swelled stream, dumping the family into the swiftly moving waters near Salt Lick.

The adult has been found and is safe, but four of the children were found deceased. One of the children was still missing as of 4:30 Thursday morning.

The accident occurred on Adams Road, about 20 miles west of Morehead and just north of Interstate-64.

Nearly three dozen people from the area arrived to help in the search. Helicopters were also used as officials and volunteers scoured the area for the victims.
