A Brownsville woman who pled guilty to a charge related to her role in the U.S. Capitol insurrection on January 6, 2021, has avoided jail time.
Reva Vincent, 57, was charged on February 14 with parading, demonstrating or picketing in a Capitol building, according to U.S Attorney’s Office for the District of Columbia. The charge is a misdemeanor punishable by up to six months in prison and a fine of no more than $5,000.
Vincent was arrested on March 8, 2022, and pled guilty to the charge on April 22. She agreed to a plea deal in May.
On Wednesday, U.S. District Judge Trevor N. McFadden ordered Vincent to serve 24 months of probation, perform 60 hours of community service and pay a $1,500 fine, according to U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Columbia.
Federal court documents indicate Vincent and her husband, who has not been charged, drove several people to Washington D.C. on January 5 “to protest Congress’ certification of the Electoral College.”
On the afternoon of January 6, 2021, and after attending the “Stop the Steal” rally at the Ellipse, Vincent returned to the Capitol and climbed the stairs into a restricted area of the Capitol near the East Rotunda door, prosecutors said.
In a video recorded by Vincent, an unknown voice says the door is open, with Vincent then yelling, “Go, go, go.” She additionally said, “That’s our house. Leave our house,” and “Stop the steal.”
Court documents state that Vincent entered the Capitol building at 3:01 p.m., and said, “In the door. We’re in the door.”
She continued, “We made it inside,” and “This is our house, not their house.”
Upon seeing police entering the building, Vincent said, “Uh, oh, they’re in trouble,” and “Leave our house, we’re done with them,” according to court documents.
Vincent left the interior of the Capitol building through the Rotunda door after approximately five minutes.
