Kentucky State Police has released additional information on the deadly trooper-involved shooting in Edmonson County in late March.

The incident began with a traffic stop on a Dodge Caravan by the Brownsville Police Department on South Main Street at approximately 8:47 p.m., Thursday, March 30. The Dodge, police said, initially stopped before fleeing. The Brownsville officer pursued the van, with the driver, 27-year-old Cody Brady, of Smiths Grove, firing multiple shots and striking the officer’s cruiser.

Troopers were requested to assist with the pursuit after Brady began firing at police.

Troopers from KSP Post 3 joined the chase at approximately 9:02 p.m., as Brady continued to fire at officers, “resulting in two KSP cruisers being struck by gunfire …,” state police said.

The chase traveled through Rocky Hill in Edmonson County and Smiths Grove in Warren County before coming to an end behind a residence on Rocky Hill Road in Edmonson County at approximately 9:27 p.m. Brady, carrying a firearm, fled on foot and into a ditch line near a residence.

“At the conclusion of the foot pursuit, Mr. Brady discharged a firearm. Sergeant Jason Adkison observed Mr. Brady brandishing a firearm, perceived a threat, and discharged his agency-issued firearm,” according to state police.

Brady was pronounced deceased at the scene by the Edmonson County Coroner’s Office.

Adkison, per policy, was placed on administrative leave. He is an eight-year KSP veteran.

The investigation into the incident remains ongoing.
