In a move by the city of Leitchfield that dates to at least 2022, code enforcement officials converged on Loflin’s Auto Parts & Service Center Friday morning to clear the property, which has been considered an eyesore by city officials for many years.
Led by Leitchfield Code Enforcement Officer Tyler Harrell, other code enforcement personnel, Leitchfield Public Works employees and the Leitchfield Police Department (which provided traffic control), workers arrived at the business at 224 West White Oak Street at 8:00 Friday morning and worked until nearly 8:00 p.m. removing junk vehicles and truckloads of what is essentially garbage.
The job, though, is not yet finished, as Harrell told K105 that personnel will return Monday to finish the work of cleaning the property.
The process of having the property cleared of junk began at least two years ago, as the business was given multiple opportunities by the city of Leitchfield to complete the work. The city will bill the business for the task of clearing the property.
K105 will have a more detailed look at the process next week, following the completion of the job on Monday.
