At nearly the exact same time as searchers were finding a missing Grayson County girl in the Wax area, a reckless driver crashed into a semi-truck on the Western Kentucky Parkway.
The Leitchfield Fire Department and EMS responded to the crash at the westbound 102-mile marker Monday night at approximately 7:30.
In the minutes before the crash, the semi driver and another motorist both called Grayson County Dispatch to report a dangerously reckless driver. The driver, according to the motorist and truck driver, got on the parkway at Clarkson and began traveling at a high rate of speed while weaving all over the roadway in a Pontiac Vibe.
The reckless driver, a male, then slowed down to roughly 40 miles per hour, as the semi-truck and other motorist passed the Pontiac.
The Vibe then sped back up. The motorist told K105 he thought the car was driving around 90 miles per hour when, although the motorist was trying to avoid the Vibe, it ran the motorist off the roadway and into the median. The motorist was not injured.
Seconds later, the Vibe crashed into the semi-truck’s driver’s side front, as it apparently attempted to enter the right lane of travel. The crash was recorded on the semi’s dashboard camera and showed the Pontiac, after hitting the semi, get sideways and slam into a guardrail at a substantial speed. The impact propelled the vehicle back across all three lanes of the westbound parkway where it came to rest on the inside shoulder.
The driver of the Vibe was found in the passenger side floorboard, as it appeared the driver was not wearing a seat belt, according to the truck driver and motorist.
The man was transported by EMS to Owensboro Health Twin Lakes Medical Center with serious injuries.
A Kentucky State Police trooper arrived at the scene and worked the crash, as Grayson County deputies were assisting in the search for the missing Wax girl at the time of the wreck.
K105 will have more information on the identity of the driver and any charges he may be facing as that information becomes available.
