A Grayson County man has been accused of shooting at his son multiple times and trying to stab him with a knife.

The incident happened on Sunday afternoon at approximately 12:30 in Wax when 59-year-old John S. Caddell, of Wax, shot at his adult son “4 to 6” times as he attempted to leave a residence in a truck. When the victim looked into his rearview mirror as the shots were fired, he observed his father “crouched next to a vehicle pointing a handgun at the vehicle he was in.”

Caddell then went back inside the residence. The victim reentered the residence as well to “check on his father,” the complaint states.

The son made contact with Caddell in the kitchen where the suspect, according to the complaint, was using a large knife to “clear some sort of jam from the handgun magazine.”

As the son attempted to “reason with his father,” the complaint states that Caddell attempted to slash his son in the torso/abdomen area with the knife, missing the victim by only a few inches.

The victim then retreated and called 911.

Caddell, according to the criminal complaint, “had been drinking heavily” on Sunday morning, prior to the incident.

The suspect was arrested by the Grayson County Sheriff’s Office on Monday morning and charged with felony wanton endangerment (discharge of a firearm) and attempted first-degree assault. He was lodged in the Grayson County Detention Center.
