A welfare check on an animal has led to the indictment of a Beaver Dam woman on a felony animal cruelty charge.
The Beaver Dam Police Department arrested 42-year-old Stephanie A. Buchman late Monday night following her indictment by an Ohio County Grand Jury on one count of torture of a dog or cat, a class D felony.
Buchman’s indictment came after animal control officers were requested to conduct a welfare check on a puppy in March. When officials arrived at the home, they discovered a dead puppy. It is believed that the puppy died of starvation, according to a report by WFIE.com.
Buchman was lodged in the Ohio County Jail on a $25,000 bond.
