Kentucky State Police said a teenager has been killed in an animal attack.

Police said the body of a 13-year-old boy was found Tuesday night on a mountainside behind a residence near Emmalena, a small Knott County town. The boy was pronounced dead at the scene. WYMT.com reports the preliminary autopsy report issued on Wednesday said the boy’s injuries were consistent with an animal attack.

Authorities have yet to identify what type of animal was responsible for the fatal attack, but there are several wild animals found in eastern Kentucky, including black bears, coyotes and bobcats. Of course, it’s possible a dog or pack of dogs could be responsible for the boy’s death.

The investigation continues.
