Kentucky surpasses 18,000 cases of COVID-19; Edmonson County man dies from virus

In his first in-person briefing this week, Governor Andy Beshear announced on Thursday that there were 333 newly confirmed cases of coronavirus over the previous 24 hours.

The new cases surge the commonwealth’s overall number to 18,245.

In addition, the governor announced four new deaths as a result of the virus. One of the deaths was a 79-year-old man from Edmonson County.

Beshear said that out of the 333 new cases, 86 were from Jefferson, 42 from Fayette, 15 from Daviess, 13 from Warren, and 12 from Bell County.

The briefing was highlighted by him officially announcing that masks will be mandatory in public beginning Friday afternoon at 5 pm.

Beshear will host another COVID-19 briefing on Friday afternoon at 3 pm CDT.
