Over 8,000 new COVID cases, 50 deaths in KY between Thursday, Saturday

Gov. Andy Beshear reported 8,054 new cases of coronavirus were confirmed in Kentucky since between Thursday and Saturday, including a record-high 3,870 cases on Thursday.

The new cases increase the state’s COVID-19 victim count to 174,182.

Officials reported 50 coronavirus-related deaths between Thursday and Saturday, raising the commonwealth’s virus death toll to 1,885 (1.1 percent fatality rate). Kentucky has now had 173 COVID-19-related deaths over the last 10 days (17.3 per day).

The rolling seven-day positivity rate rose slightly from 8.94 percent on Thursday to 8.95 percent on Saturday.

Since Wednesday, hospitalizations rose by 64 patients to 1,772, as hospitalized patients have gone up by 225 people the last five days. Intensive care patients dropped by one person between Wednesday and Saturday to 408, and victims on ventilators increased by four to 220.

Since the onset of the pandemic, 9,981 (5.7 percent) people have been hospitalized, with 2,451 (1.4 percent) patients treated in intensive care.

At least 27,998 (16.1 percent) Kentuckians have recovered from the virus, and 2.75 million COVID-19 tests have been administered in the state.
