A nearly two century old home has partially collapsed with two occupants inside.

Thursday morning at approximately 3:45, multiple first responders responded to Richmond Street in Lancaster following the partial collapse of a two-story, 175-year-old home, according to Garrard County Emergency Management.

First responders, upon arrival, confirmed that the two people inside the home, who were sleeping when an outside wall and floor collapsed, made it to safety and were uninjured.

The homeowner said that the home was built in the 1850s.

It’s unclear why the home suffered a partial collapse, but the Lancaster Fire Department chief told WKYT.com that wood will rot if water makes its way inside a structure.

The home is currently not inhabitable.
