Tips to Keep Your Home Secure While You’re on Vacation:

It is a worry for most to leave their home unaccompanied while they are away traveling, so here are a few helpful tips to keep your home protected while you are out of town:

  • Ask someone you trust to stop in and check on things, such as getting the mail or bringing in packages to keep up the illusion that someone is at home
  • Refrain from posting vacation photos on social media until you return back home.
  • If you feel concerned about leaving things unattended, tip the police off that you will not be around and request extra watch on your home.
  • Set your lights on a timer that would mimic natural patterns. Leaving the lights on 24/7 may actually tip off a criminal rather than deter them.

Fun Facts About the Month of June

  • June is named after the Greek goddess Juno who served as the protector of marriage and well-being of all women.
  • June brings along an old farming saying, “If June be sunny, harvest come early. June damp and warm does the farmer no harm.”
  • The Full Strawberry Moon will appear on June 28. This event got its name from the Algonquin tribes who thought the full moon meant it was time to gather fresh berries.
  • June has two birth flowers: honey suckles and roses.

Garden Fresh Tomato Soup Recipe:

Ingredients:

  • 4 cups of fresh tomatoes, chopped
  • 1 slice of onion
  • 4 whole cloves
  • 2 cups of chicken broth
  • 2 tbsp of butter
  • 2 tbsp of all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp of salt
  • 2 tsp of white sugar

Directions:

  1. In a stockpot, over medium heat, combine the tomatoes, onion, cloves and chicken broth. Bring to a boil, and gently boil for about 20 minutes to blend all of the flavors. Remove from heat and run the mixture through a food mill into a large bowl, or pan. Discard any stuff left over in the food mill.
  2. In the now empty stockpot, melt the butter over medium heat. Stir in the flour to make a roux, cooking until the roux is a medium brown. Gradually whisk in a bit of the tomato mixture, so that no lumps form, then stir in the rest. Season with sugar and salt, and adjust to taste.
