The device found at a home in the 2500 block of Richland Road on Sunday night was a bomb.

Kentucky State Police detonated the bomb, which officials said was capable of destroying a home.

The occupants of the residence near where the bomb was found, 59-year-old Johnnie Hayes and 39-year-old Wanda Ferguson, were shot multiple times on the morning of November 21 as the pair chased would-be burglars in a vehicle on Richland Road.

The Grayson County Sheriff’s Office and Kentucky State Police continue to investigate. It’s unclear if the two incidents are related.

Unconfirmed reports indicate the explosive device was a bucket or small barrel full of gun powder and other objects. It was only missing an ignition source. No other explosive devices were discovered on the property.

The Grayson County Sheriff’s Office, including Deputies DJ Newton and Mark Newman, responded on Sunday night and summoned the KSP Bomb Squad after investigating the device.
