A Big Clifty man has been sentenced to life in prison for raping a five-year-old girl.

Michael Dodson, 64, was found guilty in a Grayson County courtroom this week of first-degree rape, first-degree sodomy and first-degree sexual abuse (victim under the age of 12 on all counts).

In a case prosecuted in court by Grayson County Commonwealth’s Attorney Rick Hardin, the jury recommended Dodson be sentenced to life in prison (eligible for parole in 20 years) on the first-degree rape charge, 25 years for first-degree sodomy and 10 years for first-degree sexual abuse, according to the Commonwealth Attorney’s Office. The sentences will be served consecutively.

Kentucky State Police Det. James Gaither investigated the case and testified at trial.

The abuse occurred in May 2022, the prosecutors office said. Dodson was indicted by a Grayson County Grand Jury on the charges in March 2023.

The trial took place in Circuit Court Judge Kenneth H. Goff II’s courtroom.

Formal sentencing will occur in June.
