On Sunday afternoon at approximately 4:25, Kentucky State Police responded to the 24 mile marker of southbound I-65, in Warren County, on the report of a two-vehicle accident.

Police said the preliminary investigation revealed that 30-year-old Cassandra Garrison, of St. Louis, Missouri, was driving a 2015 Dodge Journey south when, according to witnesses, Garrison’s vehicle “braked to an extremely low rate of speed.” A passenger then exited the Dodge, with Garrison changing direction and traveling north in the southbound lanes.

The Dodge then struck a 2003 Ford Mustang, being driven by 41-year-old Amy Eakles, of Alvaton, head-on, according to Kentucky State Police.

Garrison and Eakles were originally transported to The Medical Center in Bowling Green. Eakles was later airlifted to Vanderbilt University Medical Center where she succumbed to injuries later that evening. Garrison was transferred Veto Skyline Medical Center in Nashville for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.

The investigation continues and is being led by Trooper Jonathan Johnson.
