At the request of Leitchfield Mayor Rick Embry, several rumble strips will be soon be placed on city streets to help combat speeding motorists.

Each set of rumble strips cost about $210, according to acting Leitchfield Public Works Director Wesley Shull, and will be installed by Leitchfield city workers. Rumble strips are patterned sections of rough pavement or topical applications of raised material, which when driven over cause vibration and noise in a vehicle. Rumble strips are a much cheaper alternative, and less intrusive to drivers than speed bumps.

City council members, who unanimously approved the move, requested the traffic control devices be placed at various spots around Leitchfield due to an abundance of speeding motorists, including Sunbeam Road, South Clinton Street, Cave Mill Road, Sequoia Drive, Hilltop Road, and Wallace Avenue.

The city cannot place the strips on state-owned roadways.
