An intoxicated Anneta man has been hospitalized after rear-ending a vehicle.

Friday night at 11:30, Grayson County Sheriff’s Office Sgt. Fred Norder and Deputy DJ Newton, the Anneta Fire Department and EMS responded to the 10800 block of Anneta Road after a Buick Le Sabre, being driven by 30-year-old Billy Fisher, of Anneta, rear-ended a Ford Explorer.

The driver of the Explorer said he was traveling about 55 miles per hour when he was hit by Fisher.

According to witnesses, Fisher attempted to flee the scene on foot but was physically detained for several minutes by the male driver of the Explorer. Fisher, though, was able to then flee from the scene on foot, according to a witness, but was caught and held by the witness at McGrew Church Road, about a quarter mile from the site of the collision, until first responders arrived. According to the witness, Fisher was highly combative and threatened to physically harm the man, even taking a swing at him. The witness responded, “You’re too drunk to kick my a__”

Fisher, suffering from a head injury, was taken to Twin Lakes Regional Hospital by EMS. An Anneta fireman accompanied EMS personnel and was hit in the eye with Fisher’s blood, as was an EMS worker, while en route. Both were treated via protocol in the ER.

Fisher was later transported to University of Louisville Hospital. He was cited by Newton for DUI, leaving the scene of an accident and no insurance.

No other injuries were reported.
