Fire damages Leitchfield home after candle falls onto pile of clothes

Multiple fire departments responded to a house fire after a candle was knocked over onto a pile of clothes.

Saturday night at approximately 7:50, the Leitchfield and Clarkson Fire Departments responded to 31 Shelton Drive on the report of a house fire. Smoke and flames could be seen coming from the home upon LFD arriving.

According to Leitchfield Fire Chief Tim Duvall, the fire began when a lit candle was accidentally knocked over onto a pile of clothes at the bottom of a short stair well.

The fire did significant damage to the stair well, living room and entry way of the residence, with other areas of the home, including two bedrooms, suffering smoke and water damage.

There were no injuries reported and firefighters cleared the scene at 9:00.
