A fire has leveled an empty Caneyville home.

Tuesday morning at approximately 12:40, the Caneyville and Falls of Rough Fire Departments and Grayson County Sheriff’s Office responded to a structure fire in the 600 block of Windy Ridge Road.

Grayson County Deputy Mark Johnson, who was patrolling in the area, arrived at the residence along with Caneyville fireman Dakota Fraim within minutes and informed firefighters via dispatch that the home was already on the ground.

With the residence located on a plateau, and closely surrounded by dense brush, small trees and other growth, firefighters worked successfully to limit the spread of the blaze.

The home, which has not been occupied for about five years (since an accidentally set fire destroyed a small portion of the structure),  had electricity.

Fire officials are unsure how the blaze began. No injuries were reported.
