776 new COVID cases in KY, 14 deaths. Hospitalizations top 700.

Gov. Andy Beshear on Tuesday said 776 new cases of coronavirus were confirmed in Kentucky over the previous 24 hours.

The new cases increase the state’s COVID-19 victim count to 81,691.

Officials said 111 of the new cases are children 18 and younger, with 22 of those cases children five-years-old and younger.

Beshear announced 14 new deaths on Tuesday, elevating the commonwealth’s death toll to 1,269 (1.6 percent).

The deaths reported Tuesday include a 76-year-old man from Daviess County; an 88-year-old man from Fayette County; two women, ages 74 and 87, and three men, ages 82, 88 and 82, from Henderson County; an 87-year-old man from Jessamine County; a 96-year-old man from Jefferson County; 91-year-old woman from Laurel County; two woman, ages, 68 and 95, from Madison County; a 59-year-old woman from McLean County; and a 90-year-old man from Montgomery County.

The rolling seven-day positivity rate rose for the second straight day to 4.59 percent from Monday’s 4.37 percent.

Hospitalizations again went up, as 704 patients are currently being treated in a hospital (up 32 from Monday), with 170 victims (down 10 from Monday) being treated in ICUs. Officials said 90 patients are on ventilators. The hospitalizations are the most since August 7.

Since the beginning of the pandemic, 6,259 (7.7 percent) people have been treated in a hospital, with 1,595 (2 percent) victims undergoing treatment in intensive care.

At least 13,986 (17.1 percent) Kentuckians have recovered from the virus, and 1,706,551 COVID-19 tests have been administered in the state.
